If you have seen a professional football game then you know that the players are getting hit constantly. This is something that makes the game very exciting! Is someone going to get nailed? Is someone going to break a tackle? Your team just scored a touchdown! All of these things play into what is football and the NFL. One thing that is an effect of this are concussions. Now more than ever the NFL is placing higher penalties on hard hits to the head and concussion prevention.

Are Concussions a Problem?

They are definitely a problem. What a lot of people don’t realize is that you don’t have to be knocked unconscious in order to receive one. Something else that is important is the age at which we start playing high impact sports. With the rise in CTE and top athletes having major problems because of it, this should be something that is talked about much more. There have been multiple athletes that have taken their own life because of Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy. A lot of parents that I talk to in my office talk about how they worry about their kids participating in high impact sports. There are definitely risks to your kids participating in high impact sports but a lot of the work I do in the office helps eliminate later effects from it.
